Test Cake

I decided that I wanted to make Lauren's 1st birthday cake. A few girls at work have made their kid's birthday cakes and/or decorate cakes so I asked some advice. Their advice: Make a test cake. So, this weekend that is what I did. Oh and am I glad that I did. Here is what I learned...

1. When they say to use a two layer cake mix, they mean use 1 box of cake mix...not 2!

2. Run a knife around the edge of the cake before trying to remove it from the pan.

3. Decorate on a flat surface that you can rotate so that you can turn to decorate the sides.

4. Practice with the different icing tips before trying on the cake!
Although I am not completely satisfied, not too shabby for my first try, I would say!

I enjoyed my baking this weekend but here is hoping that the cake comes out a little better for Lauren's birthday! :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Daddy decided to carry on a Klein valentine tradition at our house on Lauren's first Valentine's Day. Every valentine's day when Jeff was growing up his Mom would put a toy in his cereal bowl. I think Lauren liked it, what do you think? :)

Playtime in the snow

Jeff and I decided we should take Lauren out to experience the snow before it all melted. So, we bought her some snow pants and a sled and waited for a nice day to go outside. Saturday was a pretty day so we bundled her up and took her out. She enjoyed the first 5 feet she traveled in the sled. Then she started crying!! We comforted her and thought maybe she was scared so Mommy got in the sled with her for a little ride. Unfortunately that didn't help any. She was over it and wanted to go back inside. (See pictures below!) Guess she is like her Mom and doesn't like the cold!

Lauren meets Baby Hailey

Lauren just loves other babies. Often times when she is eating she will look up the fridge, wave, and in a really high pitched voice babble at the pictures up there. Many of the pictures are birth announcements or pictures of our friends children. It is so adorable. We knew she would enjoy meeting Hailey but a picture says a thousand words...

Happy 1 Week Birthday Hailey!

Hailey Layne Keyes was born Sunday, January 31st at 10:25 AM. (A WEEK AND A DAY AFTER HER DUE DATE!) I was lucky enough to get to meet her on Monday during my lunch hour. I got stuck on the Clarian Peoplemover for 20 minutes or so but I made it! We had a great visit together! Here are some pictures. She is just darling!
